The moon never misses a masquerade—-
mischievous, like the girls
sneaking out to go dancing,
their excited laughter straining
against each hushed, fluttering breath—-
this is the time she steals gold from the sun
and wears a face of amber;
resplendent at the fĂȘte, dressed
as the Patron Of Lovers And Thieves.
